The music for the songs on this page was composed using NoteWorthy Composer, an excellent music program from NoteWorthy Artware Inc.You can download a free evaluation copy from their site. This is a fully-functional version, but with limitations on the style of printing and the number of times a piece may be saved. It is well worth getting a registered copy, which costs US $39.
Unfortunately, sound files with music and full vocals are just too big to include in a limited web page, but there is one with me singing the first verse of "The Heaven Tree." Listen at your peril!
The tune links are music only. They are midi files, and should load very quickly. The score links show the sheet music, usually with a single verse of the words. The words links are just what you'd expect them to be.
You will need a working version of NoteWorthy on your system to play, edit, or print the files from the NoteWorthy links, once they are downloaded to your system.
Hear Chris singing "The Heaven Tree" (Note: this is a .WAV file and will take a couple of minutes to load. Sorry!)
Ariadne
This was written about a friend who was killed in a motorbike accident several years ago. She was a great person and her friends all miss her sorely. She was a doctor and her persona in the SCA was a lady from ancient Greece.

Arts of War
This is one of my medieval-style songs, and tells a true, if a bit romanticised, story of one of the Kings of the West in the SCA.

At Her Command
Another medieval-style song, with a pun on the meaning of the word "serve."

The Heaven Tree
The words of this song were written by Edith Pargeter (Ellis Peters), who wrote the Brother Cadfael novels, and is from her trilogy The Heaven Tree. The tune is mine.

My Love
Yet another simple medieval-style song.

Crown Tourney
This has the dubious distinction of being the first song I ever wrote; it surprised me very much. A rather schmaltzy look at winning an SCA tourney and becoming king.

Mayden Moder
A serious attempt to write a Nativity song in the style of the 1300s.

O Mistress Mine
A three-part madrigal, with Elizabethan words but a rather earlier style for the tune (hell, I thought the tune was Elizabethan too, but I gather it's not). Still somewhat under construction. The first part-song I've tried to write.
