KNITTING WOOL & ALPACA

Colours, left to right, upper to lower rows:

White, flesh pink, rose pink, crimson, scarlet, old rose, dark peach, butter yellow, pale orange, golden orange, yellow ochre, sea green, spring green, forest green, sky blue, ocean blue, magenta, light purple, violet, dark purple.

These are not all the colours I can dye; different shades of green and yellow, lavender and royal purple, and baby pastels can all be produced. Plus natural beiges and browns, nearly black, and salt-and-pepper.

Wool

Golden Gryphon has balls and skeins of knitting wool.  Well, mostly skeins, but I'll wind them into centre-pull balls for you at no extra charge if you wish.  The wool is hand-spun and hand-dyed with natural plant dyes.

Available in 5-ply (laceweight), 8-ply (DK), 12 ply (worsted), or 16-ply (bulky) equivalent.   Typical lengths are 200m for 5-ply, 120m for 8-ply, 100m for 12 ply and 60m for 16-ply.

Prices per nominal 100g skein: 5-ply, $22; 8-ply, $18, 10-12-ply and bulky, $15. (Actual skein weight may be plus or minus 5g.)

My standard wool is 22-micron pure Australian merino, soft and beautiful. Other types of wool can be sourced if you wish; e-mail me to discuss this.

I normally do an order as a single dye lot to ensure the colour is consistent, so it's best to order enough wool for your project to begin with.   Although I'll do my best, I cannot guarantee to match colours exactly later.

Generally,I spin and dye to order, rather than having a large stock on hand.  It takes an afternoon to spin a couple of 8-ply skeins, and another afternoon to dye and dry 4-6 skeins, so be sure to allow enough lead time for your order!

Hand-spun wool typically varies in texture.  Let me know whether you prefer your wool to be as even as possible (default) or if you like a more slubby or thick-thin look.

There is a text field below for colour rather than a drop-down menu; if you would like something other than the colours listed to the left, we can exchange e-mail and samples about it. The colours pictured can be reproduced quite faithfully.
